Lecturer Faculty Biography

Arlene Daus-Magbual, Ed.D. is the Director of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Student Services at San Francisco State University. She coordinates a broad range of services, programs and activities designed to support the access, academic achievement, social integration, persistence and graduation of AAPI and high-need target populations. She leads the efforts on campus in building AAPI Student Services at SFSU including our ASPIRE faculty and student learning communities.

Dr. Daus-Magbual brings more than 17 years of experience working effectively to support the academic success and social integration of AAPI students as the Executive Director for Pin@y Educational Partnerships (PEP). A service learning program that has created a “partnership triangle” between the university, public schools and the community to develop this counter-pipeline that produces critical educators and curriculum at all levels of education and in the community. She has trained and mentored graduate and undergraduate students from San Francisco State University and surrounding universities who are pursuing careers in education or community service grounded in social justice, equity, critical pedagogy, leadership development, teacher training and development, curriculum development, lesson planning and teaching.

She was an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco School of Education graduate program teaching Asian Americans in Education, Methodologies of Educational Research, and Immigration and Forced Displacement. An instructor at San Francisco State University, College of Ethnic Studies, Asian American Studies Department teaching Asian American Culture and Critical Thinking and in the Education Minor program Teaching in Action course.

Arlene holds a B.A. in Political Science from University of California Riverside, a M.A. in Asian American Studies and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from San Francisco State University and is currently Vice Chair for the Daly City Arts and Culture Commission.

She loves to create experiences that last a lifetime with her two children, Amianan and Razon and her husband Roderick.
