Baldeep Pabla

Professor Pabla is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who joined the Department of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University in 2017, the very same community where he obtained his BA in Psychology and Minor in Asian American Studies. He obtained his Masters in Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley with a specialization in Community Mental Health. He currently teaches AA S 591 - Asian American Community Health Issues.

Since 2015, he has been working as a full-time Social Worker in a community non-profit setting. He provides intensive outpatient case management and mental health services to community members who are experiencing chronic health issues, including trauma that comes from the violence of displacement, homelessness, incarceration, poverty, and frequent hospitalization resulting from a capitalist, highly-gentrified setting across San Francisco and Santa Clara County. He leads a team of case managers as a Clinical Supervisor while providing direct services in the community setting, tailoring healing interventions couched in trauma-informed, community-focused, and acceptance- and commitment-based modalities that are utilized in peoples’ street encampments, apartments, clinics, jails, and more. Through this work, he remains connected and interested in contributing to community welfare through organizing and decolonizing State and County policies that lead to such disenfranchisement across a variety of cultures, including the Asian American and Pacific Islander community he calls home.
