Sammie Wills, Director of API Equality, speaks to AAS students

On November 3, 2016 Sammie Ablaza Wills, Director of API Equality (Northern California) guest visited two sections of Asian Americans and American Ideals and Institutions taught by AAS lecturer Simmy Makhijani.

Wills detailed trans-queer Asian and Pacific Islander histories of resistance and resilience in the U.S. (within and beyond social movement spaces) with an emphasis on the importance of recovering lost/silenced histories. The importance of circulating struggle as an act of solidarity was engaged in the context of thinking about university campuses and Ethnic Studies programs in particular as important sites/resources for teaching about struggle in ways that keep our community stories in our control.
