Poetry as Protest with Minal Hajratwala and Shikha Malaviya

AAS 540, South Asians in the U.S. class, welcomed poet-writer-activist-teachers Minal Hajratwala and Shikha Malaviya (The Great Indian Poetry Collective http://greatindianpoetry.org/) on Thursday, April 7, 2016 for a highly interactive session that skillfully drew inspiration from key themes of the course including the politics of caste/race discrimination, political mobilization in exile, and struggles against capitalism/imperialism through invocation of a rich history of "Poetry as Protest." More than forty-five students learned about using poetry as a tool for learning, mobilizing, and speaking the unspeakable while also moving their own pens!
