Ms. Gail Whang, a third-generation Korean American and a second-generation San Francisco State University alumna, graduated from the University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Arts with a Music emphasis. Ms. Whang was an educator for over thirty years where she taught in multilingual, multiethnic schools and became the Director of Student Services with the Oakland Unified School District. She was a leader in school restructuring and curriculum innovations as well as a conflict resolution trainer.
Ms. Denise Whang Woo was a student at SFSU where she studied Asian American history for two years. She worked in the banking industry as a finance professional. While working, she volunteered at Asian American community centers where she taught finances to Asian immigrants.
Ron Whang is also a second-generation San Francisco State University alumna and, following in his father’s footsteps, graduated from the University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreation. Mr. Whang worked at the Recreation Center for the Handicapped upon graduation and then joined the Peace Corps in the Fiji Islands. He worked for the Federal Government upon returning to the US.
